About the object

This rectangular glass window has been made from several individual coloured pieces of leaded glass. At just over two meters high and a good 80 cm wide, it was fitted in the stairwell of the Siegener Eisenhandlung G.M.B.H. Mainly in brown and beige tones, the window shows an iron worker with a hat, a long leather apron and long iron tongs in the hammer mill. A coat of arms floats above the man. A few red, blue and green pieces of glass enrich the motif with colour. The stained-glass window was created based on a design by Adolf Saenger. Born in Niederdielfen in 1884, the artist began his career late, at the age of almost 30. He created oil paintings and drawings as well as sculptural works and art on buildings.
