About the object
This copper engraving in landscape format shows a pastoral idyll in a broad landscape, with a rainbow stretching over the horizon to the left, before a mountainous panorama. At the front of the picture two sheep graze, while beside them a couple has settled down, gently embracing one another. Before them stands a dog, which looks towards a tree to the right in the picture. At the foot of the tree sits a man who has broken off playing his flute and now looks towards the sky. Another couple is visible to the right of the flute player, the lady standing, the man still half-walking. The hilly landscape in the background with houses, a grazing flock of sheep and several trees is cut through by a river, over which a stone bridge leads, as does a wooden bridge further forward in the picture.
