About the object

The child’s portrait in vertical format shows Louise Juliana standing in front of a dark background, wearing court attire. Along with the red dress with a red and white striped apron, the girl wears a ruff and a cap with ruffled trim. In her left arm she carries a doll, and in her right hand a red carnation. Louise Juliana looks towards the artist, her cheeks rosy. The portrait is one of a series of sibling portraits of the House of Nassau-Orange. All of the pictures bear an inscription that was certainly not written by the artist himself. In the case of the eldest daughter, Louise Juliana, we read: ‘Frevolin Lowis of Orange. Daughter of the Lord Prince’.
