About the object
The ensemble, which consists of an upholstered bench with a round high backrest, two upholstered chairs and a square table, comes from the estate of Ulrike von Levetzow (1804-1899).
All the items of furniture are made of solid wood and the upholstery has shiny stripes in rosé red and ivory. The aristocratic Ulrike von Levetzow achieved fame mainly due to her encounter with Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. During a stay in Bohemia, the poet fell in love with the then 17-year-old and later dedicated his famous ‘Marienbad Elegy’ to her. Ulrike von Levetzow remained unmarried and spent most of her life in Mecklenburg, where she devoted herself to charitable work.
