About the object

The nature motif in a gold frame shows the view from an uneven sandy path into a hilly landscape set against a grey-blue sky. The path is lined with young fir trees and several delicate deciduous trees and shrubs. The mood of the picture is very calm, with not a soul to be seen. A clear, narrow furrow can be seen, probably formed by the rain, with a few small gravel stones lying on the path. Johannes Deiker (born in Wetzlar in 1822, died in Düsseldorf in 1895) was best known as a painter of hunting scenes and animals. Around the middle of the 19th century, he repeatedly stayed in Littfeld, where his wife Marie Satorius lived with her family, before she moved to Düsseldorf with him. Various landscape pictures of the Siegerland originate from this period, of which several have entered the Siegerlandmuseum collection.
