Dwarf Magic Underground

“Once upon a time …” – this is how the fairy tale of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs begins, who searched for sparkling gemstones underground. After a cozy storytelling session, we get properly equipped and descend into the show mine! Will we also find gemstones here?

Painting Workshop

The name Peter Paul Rubens is world-famous – and the best part: he was born in Siegen! But who is the person behind this great name? And how did he manage to create so many artworks? We explore this together and discover the paintings in the Rubens Hall.

Just like in Rubens’ workshop, we then create our own artworks in the “Ideen-Werkstatt” .

Printmaking Workshop

During a short visit to the Rubens Hall, we get to know the world-famous painter Peter Paul Rubens. But why are there so many printed images of Rubens, and that long before the invention of printers? In the “Ideen-Werkstatt” , we then get straight to work and create our own printed artworks using colours and different materials!

We love that you were born! – We celebrate our friendship

Celebrate your birthday together with your friends at the Siegerland Museum – and not only that: we also celebrate your friendship! Along the way, we get to know various friends from times past and learn about the exciting stories they experienced together.

In the “Ideen-Werkstatt”, we then create a joint gift for the birthday child: a friendship book in a box as a memento of this special day!

UNDERGROUND: Hidden Treasures – Exploring Rocks in the Research Lab

The Siegerland region is known for the extraction of a treasure deep underground: iron ore! Together we explore the show mine and learn all about working underground: Who worked here? What tools were used? Under what conditions did people have to work?

Back above ground, the “Ideen-Werkstatt” becomes a research laboratory – because both underground and above ground, different rocks and minerals can be found! Can you figure out which ones through small experiments?

Kids in the Castle

Many stories and fairy tales tell of princesses and princes. Did they really exist, and where could they be found in the Siegerland region? We embark on a journey through time and meet various children from the noble House of Orange-Nassau at the Siegerland Museum. How did these children live? What and how did they have to learn? What games did they enjoy playing? And how does all of this differ from our childhood today? Some traditional children’s games from past times can even be tried out. In addition, we get creative in the idea workshop and, for example, design our own coat of arms.

We Have a Plan! From City Map to Model

Seven hills, two castles, and a little crown on the church tower – the cityscape of Siegen is shaped by its landscape and impressive buildings. But what is located where, and why? We explore this together! After discovering what can be found on the map of Siegen’s upper town, we bring it to life in 3D: using Lego bricks, cardboard, and paper, we build our own city model – including the city wall and important buildings!

ABOVE GROUND: From Dark Ore to Shining Metal – Create Your Own Artwork

Iron is omnipresent in the Siegerland region – for centuries, iron ore was mined here underground until the 1960s. Even today, iron processing still plays an important role in the region. In this workshop, we explore the department of economic history and learn how iron was extracted and processed.

Afterwards, we get creative ourselves: using embossing foil, metal stamps, and embossing tools, we design small metal artworks!

Glück Auf!

Put on your helmet and off we go, deep underground! Together we explore the show mine and immerse ourselves in the world of the miners. What tools were used here? Who worked here? And above all, under what conditions?

Back above ground, we take a closer look at different types of rock and build small hammer mills (Fischertechnik).

What is the “Ideen-Werkstatt”?

The “Ideen-Werkstatt” is a space for participating, exchanging ideas and being creative. It is located on the top floor of the Siegerlandmuseum.

Our 3D printer and laser cutter can also be used as part of workshops.
