From Dark Ore to Shining Metal: Create Your Own Embossed Artwork
Iron is everywhere in the Siegerland region – for centuries, iron ore was mined underground here until the 1960s. Even today, iron processing continues to play an important role in the region. In this workshop, we explore the department of economic history and learn how iron was extracted and processed.
Afterwards, we become creative ourselves: using embossing foil, metal stamps, and embossing tools, we create metal artworks!
Forging Peace: Paths to Peace in the Early Modern Period and Today
Creating and maintaining peace has concerned people both in the past and today. In this workshop, we learn about various personalities from the Early Modern Period who attempted to create peace in different ways. Among them is none other than the world-famous painter Peter Paul Rubens. What conflicts were the starting points? How did these individuals try to establish peace? Do these approaches still make sense to us today? How would we act?
After engaging discussions, the “Ideen-Werkstatt” becomes a peace workshop. Here we creatively explore the topic of peace and design our own visions of how we want to live.
Painting Workshop
The Siegen-born Peter Paul Rubens is world-famous for his paintings and prints. Less well known is that Rubens also ran a large workshop as a business and was active in diplomacy. Together we get to know Rubens better and analyse his paintings in the Rubens Hall.
Just like in Rubens’ workshop, we then create our own artworks in the “Ideen-Werkstatt”.
Print Workshop
During a visit to the Rubens Hall, we get to know the world-famous Peter Paul Rubens and his working methods in more depth. What do printmaking techniques have to do with Rubens’ workshop? Why are there so many prints of and after Rubens? And which techniques were used to produce them?
Afterwards, we try out a printing technique ourselves and create our own artworks in the “Ideen-Werkstatt” using drypoint etching.
