The Siegerlandmuseum's collection contains numerous items of “Biedermeier” furniture from around 1820. Among these, the salon of Ulrike von Levetzow is to be particularly emphasized. In 1821 the then 72-year-old Johann Wolfgang von Goethe fell in love with the 17-year old Ulrike von Levetzow and shortly afterwards asked her to marry him - but in vain.
Outstanding works from the Düsseldorf Art Academy complement the furnishings from the 19th century. In particular, Italian landscapes and seascapes by the famous landscape painters Oswald (1827 - 1905) and Andreas Achenbach (1815 - 1910) have their place here.
